IMechE 2025
About

The IMechE UAS Challenge is an international competition with teams from around the world designing and manufacturing an aircraft under 10kg to fly autonomously around a set of GPS coordinates and deploy a medical aid package accurately. The University of Sheffield successfully competed last year and we have high hopes of learning from our experiences and achieving an even higher ranking.
SHARD is an unique tricopter tilt-rotor drone capable of vertical and fixed-wing flight with a maximum payload capacity of 4kg and more than 18 km of range. Using a unique servo motor mount, the front two motors tilt upwards allowing it to quickly take off from any terrain and precisely hover above package drop locations. During cruise SHARD's front motors tilt forwards and it autonomously flies between waypoints in an efficient fixed-wing configuration. Its large 2.55 metres wingspan allows for a top speed of 74 kph and a maximum operating ceiling of 60 metres while flying for over 20 minutes.
